Khullar
“Metaphors are a fundamental mechanism through which our minds conceptualize the world around us, especially in the face of complexity.”
Metaphors are used in everyday situations and sometimes metaphors help us to shape the world. To break down information that may be hard to understand, sometimes metaphors are used so people can get the concept. Even though Khullar used this in his article, it was also expressed in Erard’s and Geary’s. Metaphors are a big part of the world and the human language, they help us to understand descriptions and complex situations.
“Physicians who used more metaphors were seen as better communicators.”
This did not apply to every patient because everyone perceives metaphors differently. It talked about in the text that some patients didn’t like their illness to be compared to something because then they feel as though they don’t understand it, or they feel the need to win a battle that could end in defeat. People perceive things differently through the speech of others, especially through their doctors when talking to their doctor they may want to know everything medically, not as casually.
“By describing a treatment as a battle and a patient as a combatant, we set an inherently adversarial tone, and dichotomize outcomes into victory and defeat.”
This I agree with because it can set up a standard of having to defeat your illness. Not all patients have the desire of going to war with their illness. I also disagree with this at the same time because sometimes a metaphor like this could help a patient in what they need to do.Knowing a patient is in a war and it can be something they win or lose gives them the motivation to keep going.
Geary
“Metaphorical thinking is essential to how we understand ourselves and others, how we communicate, learn, discover, and invent.”
I agree but also disagree with this saying. I believe that metaphor can cause this and be essential to how we develop, but I also believe that the environment causes this also. How one’s environment where they group up can cause metaphors to be created and describe them. Metaphor is used for development but is development from metaphor?
Erard
“Once we loose a metaphor into the world, it will be blocked by other ways of thinking that change its meaning or disrupt its interpretation.”
I agree because my opinion is that metaphors are how people interpret them. There really is no meaning to a metaphor, the can be built to have one but they are for the people’s own use. Metaphors are used, and decided by the people and not by the creator. How the world perceives it, the creator won’t know until its release.

I like the quotes that you have chosen for Khullar and the responses you have given him. I agree with your response to his quote about “describing treatment is a battle” I understand what you are saying.

Fantastic job building connections between all of our texts. You’ve got a lot to work with here, as you choose what to include in your paper! Wonderful!
