I chose two articles to help backup my essay. One is to explain mental health and how it is being affected on a younger generation, the other is to explain why this might be. Anxiety and other mental illnesses have reached a high throughout the American school districts. Students have reached their breaking points through work and pressure. There is the need to feel like you are the best of the best and can do anything without failure. The work that is being put onto students these days is stress inducing and hard to manage. This article talks about the break of a teenager and his journey, how school broke him. School has been more anxiety producing than ever, and there is no creative break for the brain. Both essays argue that schools need an art aspect to help their students with expression and to give their brain a break. Creativity level in the past few generations have been dropping since the withdrawal of the arts. All work and no fun is being pushed in school which really has taken a toll on students. These articles I have chosen I think are really going to be beneficial to my paper. They provide a lot of information and a lot of points I can make. They also have a deeper look into what is really happening to the generation of our students. Reading these essays made me confident with the argument that we need art in our lives, that we need to keep our brains creative. It also will help me address mental health into my paper which I find something very important to talk about since there is such a big stigma around it. With this paper I can personally relate it back to myself and talk about my own experiences. I can also talk about my own experiences notices that the arts are disappearing from the school districts of America. I can also address the widespread problems that students are having to this day. There is a lot of anxiety that is produced through school and life, no kid wants to be a failure and disappoint their loved ones. Our minds are racing as teenagers and students so having our creative side intact can help with the coping of anxiety and other mental health issues. I feel like these essays are perfect to match up with my essay are get my point across that kids are suffering and the lack of creativity means dull brains. We don’t want to lose that in our generations to come and our generations currently. The arts are so important, even if they aren’t as important to you than they are to others. You learn to use the right and left side of your brain and not over work parts. Our school curriculum needs to be fixed and our students need to be saved from the deep depths of mental illness. There is so much more we can do to fight back, so much more we can do to improve.

What is the name of your choice texts? I’m curious if they passed the CRAAP test. Your angle sounds fascinating. As a mother, I can’t help but feel a little nervous as I read your description of the public school system. I look forward to reading your paper.
